There was also a compression spring to hold tension on the outside [nut] side of the board. There was also a thin strip of metal on the under side edge of the board to limit wear from sliding on the ground. The "stick" was an old piece of hedge branch held on with a clamp at about a 40 degree angle. Probably didn't come from the factory that way, but my Grandpa fixed it up that way, & it worked.

Brownie,
thanks for your input, my dad has run one fo these things for a lot a years cutting hay and straw when he was younger, but he is 74 years young. I bought a nice 25V last fall and am now putting it on my M and gonna play, well he told me if I were gonna cut anything but grass, I better find a divider board or I would be in a world of a mess. Local IH dealer with the knowledge is closing, and the other one has no clue what I am talking about, so any input is a great help.
Thanks
Jim

I am not looking at one, but here goes:
They are about 18 to 20" long made from 3/4" actual thickness (one by) yellow pine, or sugar maple, Bass wood, or poplar would also be OK.
They are about 4-3/4 inches wide at the attachment, and 5-1/2 at the loose end. The loose end is rounded to be tangent to the top and bottom edges. Bolt holes are in the divider guard, and there is usually a matching plate that is used to pinch the board and make the tension of the bolts spread out. The bottom edge should be 1-1/2 to 2" faarther off the ground than the front of the board when it is tight. The edges need to be sanded or routered round, and the whole thing should be sanded 220 or finer with a coat of oil to limit decay and repel water and insects. That is the best I can put together on that topic. JimN
