IH 656 3 pt hitch question

Hi there group. I posted a week or so ago stating I bought a 656 for a pretty decent deal. There was only one small problem the owner told me about when I bought it. He gave me the handle and bracket for the draft control and said the end of the shaft where the lever attaches broke off. I figured no real problem, I wouldn't be counting on it much anyway.

I seem to have to trottle up to raise the hitch at a decent rate, but when lowered, the 3 point lowers so slow I find myself having to stop the tractor to wait for it to lower to where I want it. Power steering and other hydraulic functions seem to work as they should, so it seems like it would be an adjustment issue.

My question is, do I need to replace this shaft to adjust the rate of fall for the hitch, or am I missing the place I am supposed to be adjusting it? I know right where it is on my green tractors, but I'm sort of stumped on the new red one. If I need to replace the shaft, is it a big job?

Thanks for the help!

Jay

It is a "Bastage" of a job.

Under the seat, pull that cover and the guts to the hitch are under the plate. Bunches and bunches of roll pins ya gotta fish in and outta there to replace that shaft.

That will probably cure your "drop", but the slow raise more than likely is gonna take a hitch pump, which is mounted "piggy-back" on the front hydraulic pump.
