2 way hydraulic valve

Is this unreasonable for a 2 way valve for my M? Is there any reason a 2 way generic valve from Tractor Supply wouldn"t work? I haven"t been able to find one here in the parts area. While trying to fix the leak in the axle (outer bearing and seal), attaching my Saginaw hitch and adjusting the brakes, I thought I might tackle putting a truck snow plow on the hitch. Call me crazy...

If you are going through the trouble of adding a double-acting valve (is that the correct terminology?) personally, I would put a two-spool valve on it right away. This is what I have on my H - I can leave my mower hydraulics hooked up and still hook on a trailing implement. The same principle would apply for a tractor with a 3-point hitch or any mounted implement that needs hydraulics...

Carden, yes any two way valve will work, just make sure that it is open center.

I got bombarded by a board member a month or so ago for calling it a two way valve though, but you and I know what they are called :')

I appreciate a good dispute over linguistics but I only call it how I believe the industry would. Right or wrong. Maybe there are differences but here"s a link to the US patent office and we know the federal government is never wrong! Thanks for the replies and info though. United States Patent 5205321

You can name names. I think you were referring to me. I don't mind.

There is no such thing as a two-way hydraulic valve when it comes to simple open center systems. I think you are confusing "double acting" with "two-way". Show me a catalog description that uses that term.

One-way valve = check valve
Three-way valve = single acting valve
Four-way valve = double acting valve

The last two valves can have added features such as detents, float, auto kick-out, auto reverse, pilot equipped spools, relief circuit, electric slave switches, solinoid operators, and probably more.

It seems to me if we are going to share knowledge, we might as well try to get it right.

Well, Wardener, I don't remember names so well. I understand the principles of hydraulics, and the associated valves, etc. I appreciate the interest though.

No hard feelings!

Sorry, the link to the valve didn't work on my original post.
