i should have said the noise in the tranny of my H was more of a light clunking more so in 4th and a little in reverse. thank you for the response.may have to pull topoff tranny is there any gears i should check first ?or any thing to check first? thanks DEANE

If the "clunk" happens a few times a second, it is probably one or more broken teeth in the tranny. Fifth is a coupling direct drive through the input shaft to the output shaft, but fourth is on that fork. I would first pull the belt pully, or belt pulley port cover if no belt pulley, and look at the gears from there. the oil may cover much of what you see, so draining firat, and letting it drip off for a day might enhance your view. Both the driven and coast side of every tooth needs to be looked at. Not all the gears can be seen from the pully opening. If fourth is clicking, and chipped, I would fix it pronto. Reverse might incline me to put it off unless it is used in reverse a lot (loder etc.) JimN
