Here's a picture of an H with the proper single front end. Painted the wrong color, but it is the right wheel. :>)

I posted this to Mike's original post but it was late and I don't know if you guys saw it.

I think you both are right. From an original H and HV owners manual dated 1-1-47, under special attachments,Single Front Wheel- Pneumatic Tire Equipment "For Farmall H- Two attachments are available; one is for 6.50-16 inch tires and the other is for 7.50-10 inch tires". The only picture is of the 10 inch cast wheel so I don't know if the 16 inch was cast or pressed. Ed

I owned a 1948MD with the 10" wheel, It was dead stock, got it from the original owner and it was purchased for pumping irrigation (PTO work) The tractor was level, and felt correct. I think his is an optional size that is fine. JimN

We had an H with a factory 16" wheel on it with a 6 ply 6-16 tire. It was ordered with both the NF and SF. It was level.

6-16? Really?

Every one I've ever laid eyes on had a 7.50 X 16 Tri-Rib.

Settin' level was the absolute last thing ya wanted.

'Course, ya gotta remember, I'm talking irrigated farming here. Even then, when ya dropped that snout in the ditch in front of a V-ditcher, it still "nosed down". :>)

Here is a pic of my F-12 with the single cast front wheel. Someone told me the front fork would also fit a C. and the wheel would fit C-M. I wonder if the fork would fit an H also.

Nope, that is not the correct single front wheel. Take notice of how high the front of the tractor sits. It is headed uphill all the time. Tractor should sit level, as it would if the smaller cast center 10" wheel was on it.

Nope,

That's the trouble with putting on the wrong front wheel. The tractor will set "level". It shouldn't.

It needs to be higher in the front to allow more ground clearance for cultivators, bean cutters, etc., etc.

Something I just realized.. this H I am getting originally came from Washington. In the Yakima area I believe. But Like I had said before, I have seen them like that out here as well.

It's all moot, really, since I am replacing it.

Howdy Allan. I am not arguing, but I have gone through some of my books and find pics of M's taken in the 40's with the smaller cast wheel on them. The only pics I have found yet with the larger one is on cotton pickers. Keep in mind, I don't know what was available or not, but am assuming that either could be correct.

I do not know what was available as original equipment but Case/IH parts book shows 3 different styles of 16 inch pneumatic single front wheels plus steel 16 inch single front. There is also 10 inch pneumatic single front listed as well as 10 inch steel wheel but they are not shown in illustrations.

I had to drop into Classic View to do it. Once you get set up on Modern View, go into your Profile, and update your info. You can have your e-mail available at all times, rather than having to manually enter it in on a post when you want someone to e-mail you.

I was set up on the modern view, but it now rejects my password. I emailed the management, but haven't heard a word from them.
