I'm meeting with the owner of the '44 H tomorrow morning at 9 am. I have a gentleman from the EDGE&TA club who has offered to haul the tractor down for me. It should be sitting in my driveway in the afternoon. I can't wait to see my neighbor's reactions. :)

especially when I get it running and start putting around the neighborhood! third party image

I was going to e-mail you tomorrow night after I washed it and got some detailed pics of the controller. So look for it.

Hi Mike, I know you can"t wait to get flying down the road with it and who wouldn"t! Just do me a favor and be sure to grease that front wheel real good! I took my F-12 with that same wheel set up down the road one time to pull a truck out of a ditch and the front wheel locked up on me. happened out of the blue with no noise and I thought I greased it regular enough. seems those need greasing daily! There is NO bearing in there, the wheel rides on the axle shaft, yep, no kidding! I would hate to see you pop it in 5th and have that wheel lock on you. My f-12 only goes 3.5 mph in high so an H in 5th,it would be scary and most likely would break things including bones! I started greasing mine with it moving slow in low and I would pump the gun while walking alongside to make sure grease went in good. Outside of that check her out good and have fun!

"and soon theyll be calling you farmer mike"

Well, I was farmer Lanse when I wore a straw hat out mowing the lawn, on the "Tractor"....

Im not speaking from advice, but just be careful. I wouldnt do doughnuts/racing on an H, theyre too high. Realisticially thought, from my little experience with them, they are GREAT tractors.

Go easy on the "burnouts". That really gets people upset around here. It won't be long before they start calling you Farmer Mike.

Well, I plan on getting rid of these tires eventually. So maybe a few drag race type smoke shows would be fun! third party image

Mike, before you start driving it around the neighborhood, I would do a couple of things: 1. If the lights don"t work, get them working! "I didn"t see the tractor" is harder to prove when you can say you had your lights on. 2. Check with your homeowner"s policy about liability coverage if the unthinkable should occur.

Glad to hear your dreams are coming together! I have a couple of my own that are being pieced together as I type, it"s a great feeling! :o)

The light defenately aren't working.

It has no lights. I'm looking for the whole set up. (Lights, light bar, amp meter, and starting button holder)

Since it was built during the war, IH took all unnecessary parts off to save material for the war effort. So lights weren't a option during the war. Does it have a battery or a Mag? I've seen many mid-1940's tractor with Mag's for the same reason. have Fun tomarrow!!!!! -David GOode Coggon, IA

It's got a distributer. But I'm going to eventually convert back to mag as soon as I can dig up enough MRE's for Magman. third party image

It's coming off as soon as I find the replacement... which I may have found in the local area. I need to go see what this guy is describing to make sure it's the bolster I want. (He said it came off a combine, but it fits an H... so we'll see.)

Until then, I'll just have to live with the shame.

Mike, what kind of combine had a tricycle bolster on it. I have an old 101 and it sure doesn't.

I figured one might, but never seen one. Of course this isn't big combine country. Probably isn't 8 or 10 in two counties here.

Mike, I can see it now. Better make sure those lights work. You may not want to come in at dark. Hard to get the kids to come in sometimes when they have new toys to play with. Good Luck.

First thing I would do is put a straight pipe on her. As my dad used to tell my youngest son, it was a "dog pipe" you can hear it bark!!!
