Hello All,

I have a 1944 Farmall M with a very good engine and a transmission that is stuck in 3rd gear. I am looking at an H with no engine and good transmission and drivetrain.

Will the M engine bolt up to the H frame / tranny / rearend easily?

Thanks,
s Robert

If you access the forum archives for shifter repair, or M shifter tip or Stuck in gear, there will be photos of the reality. JimN

Robert, like Allan mentioned, you need to remove your shifter and see if it has just slipped out of the shifting rail. Is so just take a big screwdriver and slide all rails into the neutral position and put the shifter back in. This is a common problem with old tractors with a million hours on them. If this is all wrong with your M the shifter can be welde up on the end and ground back down to fit the rails much better and cure this problem.

No way Robert! The only thing shared between between the H and the M engine/drivetrain is the color of the paint. (Virtually EVERY part on the M is a good 30% bigger in size...)

It would require a major machining effort to graft your M engine onto the H rearend. Your time/$$$ will be much better spent sorting out your M's transmission problem!

Not even close, they are two entirely different sized tractors.

I'd be for popping that shifter up and see if ya can get 'er unstuck.
