Went to an absolute sale today, and (forgive me Father, as I have sinned) and bought my second non IH in my career. An Oliver 1550 rowcrop gas Hydra Power on 14.9x38. Overall an 8 point tractor, one owner. Auctioneer finally wheezed $2200 CDN. from me. Tractor is gas, which for my need is perfect. There never were any 544 gassers sold around here, and a 656 would be at least 2x the money. If it does not work out, I can always resell.... QR

Red: You bought the right shade of green, I should be allowed in your shop. My hat was bought to satisfy a Deere farmer who told me I wasn't allowed in his shop with a red hat.

Seriously, I've always liked Olivers, probably would have been more of an Oliver guy had my dad listened to me in 1955. I pressed him to buy the Oliver Super 77 diesel, however he chose the Farmall 300. Decission was based purely on the more established dealer. I still think I was right, afterall what builds strong dealers.

I tried out a 1650 diesel, just before I bought my 656, probably would have bought the 1650, had the 656 not come with a farm I bought. I liked that 1650 with the over-under, had more wallop than 656. Not quite as manuverable as 656.

I have a friend, his dad farmed with Olivers, so did he and still does. In the 1980s he added a Farmall 886 and a Deere, not sure of model but a bit more hp than the 886. He recently scaled back his operation, and the Olivers 1855, 1550 and 550 stayed, Deere and 886 are gone, and money was not an issue.

At least if you bought a green tractor, you did get the correct color green.

There ain't nuthin' wrong with Olivers. Unless it is totally clapped out, it should serve you quite well.

Sounds like you got a bargain, that was cheap for that 1550, if it is in decent shape. I have had a couple of 1600s and a couple of 1850s, some 77s, 88s, and an 880, all were good tractors.

I drove one oliver extensively (a Super55) utility. I liked it a lot, May it serve you well. They are stout trouble free tractors. JimN
