806D Runs Rough After Warm Up

This tractor usually runs flawlessly. Brush mowing with it one day and it started to sputter and lose rpm. Idles really rough. The longer I run it, the worse it runs. Start it the next day and it runs great for 10 minutes or so. I'm not sure if it's related or not but I recently started running a little sulfur substitute in it. I changed the primary fuel filter and no difference. That is all I've done. Any ideas? I'm not really up on diesels.

My 656D was doing the same thing a few months ago. Turned out to be the flex ring inside the injector pump, just like some of the folks in this forum predicted...been visiting forum daily ever since. A bit of advise - if you remove the pump yourself, follow the directions in the IT manual AND mark the position of the pump before you take it off. A slight rotation either direction makes a big difference.

do you just happen to have a Pump stand and the tools to do the work . pump rebuilds run between 450-1000 depending on what all the pump needs. i have seen a couple guys that have done there owen at the cost of and engine because they got the setting wrong myself i can do them but only if i can run it on the stand BEFORE i install it.

old didn't mention this and I apologize if you already know it, but correct re-installation of an injection pump in a Diesel engine is CRITICAL.

Pump placement controls timing in most installations. Rotate the pump too far in one direction and the fuel is squirted in too late for the air in the combustion chamber to be hot enough to fire it.

It gets worse. Accidentally go too far in the other direction and you can damamge the crank, rods, bearings, pistons, etc., just as you can on a gasoline engine if the timing is too far advanced.

Get it even a little wrong and the tractor will run hot, be hard to start, work poorly under load, etc. etc.

So BEFORE REMOVING THE PUMP read and re-read the instructions for re-installing it. Make sure you understand every step and don't remove the pump until you do.

like geore said check the fuel flow from the tank to the filters. If ya don"t have a full stream then blow it back to the tank . and see if that does the trick . if the flow is good then you are in for a pump rebuild .

Does it have the Roosa-Master pump? If so, it sounds like the injection pump is on the way out. Shut off the fuel at the tank, and loosen the little timing cover on the side of the pump. Catch the fuel that drains out in a clean container, and inspect for black chunks.

Might be junk in the tank obstructing fuel flow.
