The us is now letting mexican truckers full access to our roads starting today! There trucks are not nearly as safe as ours and it will make smuggling that much easyer. I belive this is a sad day for the security of our homeland. i know this is off topic but we gotta get this changed just like we did with the dubii port deal. We need to tighten security not loosen it.

Let's see now..... I'll drop my authority (with all the bookwork/reports that go with it}, I'll drop all my different insurances, I won't pay my hi-way use tax, I won't need my drug testing company now and I'll just say so long to the $5000/year license plate after I change my name to Pablo and I'll be good to go!!!

Most of the OTR trucks here are newer Kenworth and look to be in as good of condition as the US trucks and most of the trailers are US built. The big Mexican freight companies canīt afford to be using junk trucks any more than their US counterparts. So, along with DOT inspections and regulations, I think that safty is not an issue (Heck, I drive on the same roads with them every day). That being said, there are plenty of local trucks here that should not be allowed on any road!

I wonīt comment on the politics of whether or not Mexican trucks should be driving all over the US and US trucks driving all over Mexico, but you might as well get used to it.

Just my 2 pesos worth.

I have stood at border crossing in Laredo, TX and watched hundreds of Mexican trucks cross and I missed the new KWs a big percentage of what I saw were old ragged out former Schieder cab overs.

I'm not quite so sure this is so doom and gloom. The trucks will be safety inspected and have their cargo inspected before entering the U.S. The Teamsters are in an uproar I think because they are feeling threatened about jobs. I'm not one way or the other on this issue right now, but I think the Homeland Security argument is just something the Unions are using as a scare tactic. It just doesn't hold water to rational thinking.

The truckers effected by Mexican trucks will be the truck load carriers JB Hunt, Schieder, Werner, Covenant, Swift etc. and these carriers are almost 100% non union. The companys are in favor of the Mexican trucks coming in as their long range plans are to set up terminals in Mexico and use mostly Mexican drivers.

Mike have seen a lot 100s trucks cross in Laredo and Brownsville and they pull up to check point show paperwork and are gone of course these trucks were not allowed to leave free trade zone. A few years back my company shipped hundreds of loads into Mexico and after couple weeks the US carriers refused to let their trailers go into Mexico as they came back with tires, brakes etc. swapped out for junk. Home land security admits that only small percentage of ocean going containers coming into US are inspected and it will be no different with Mexican trucks.

Spent some time in Mexico in the mid-70s. Did note that they like to go fast and almost all were driving Petes and KWs.

Doubt their rigs could be any worse than the junk I see totin' municipal garbage from NYC/NJ, to a landfill in rural northcentral PA. Oddly enough, most of those rigs are also driven by Hispanics, many of whom have yet to master the Roadranger, since they can't climb a hill worth snitz.

Local boys run up and down those hills with ease, trash haulers will usually be encountered going one mile per hour on the same grade.

this is a complicated issue, i am from NEW mexico and drive big trucks everyday, around here at least 50% of the drivers are hispanic, ive never had trouble running with them, except savving some of their lingo, or seen any fleet driver drive badly what i do see are one truck local operations with worn out stuff and drivers who cant drive,we got the same trash trucks here too, slow, but when i found out some of them are grossing 56000 on 3 axles and have 237 horsepower instead of 400 and have either straight 5 speeds no splitter ot 2 speed rears or even automatics, i can understand why their slow

Fast trucks do not egual safe trucks. On I 65 at AL/TN line Albama has put up flashing caution light and lowered speed limit because of dangerous curve. Almost every time I go through there I hear some cowboy on radio ridiculing the speed limit and saying they could make that curve at 90 maybe so but they keep guard rail torn down in median as fast as they can put it up about 6 times in last year. By the way most new fleet trucks are now being speced with automatic transmission some 3 pedal but mant 2 pedal.
