Allan in NE. Just read about the beefed up 656 you saw in town on the wide front debate post. Did that 656 have a beefed up frame too. My neighbor has a 656 he used to have a loader on. He would pickup a round bale on the back whenever he wanted to move dirt or something heavy with the loader. After the 656 broke in half the 2nd time in the bellhousing area he decided to put the loader on his 756. Lee

I have a 656 with an IH 2000 loader. I mount a forklift on the 3 point to feed round bales in the winter. I dont have to worry about breaking mine in half till I put a new pump in that can actually generate some decent pressure...

Lee: If one had that much heavy loader work, wouldn't it be wise to buy a 4 wheel drive machine with the engine as a counter weight.

I took the loader off my 560D in the mid 70s as I had a 45 hp skidsteer loader that would run circles around 560 on loader work performed per hour. I did it for years too, but putting loader weight on a steering axle is plain archaic. I can understand having an old 2 wheel drive with loader for ocasional loader work. However if one is feeding large numbers of livestock with a loader, 365 days per year, it is probably the highest hour machine on the farm.

Mornin' Lee,

No, not really, but he did have 'er set up to do some heavy work.

Had fluid in those big tires and a DuAl 3000 loader, which if you are familiar with the way they are built, consists of ironwork from the front carriage rack all the way back to the rear axles.

I agree, the smaller tractors have to be beefed up for loader work. :>(

Allan, couldn't you find a more fuel efficient rig for that light duty raking job?

Darned if I know. It's gotta be around here someplace. :>)

It wouldn't work on that rake setup anyhoo 'cause the little tractor doesn't have a 3-point hitch.
