I would like to try to set up a plow day in my area. There is always large turnout for the nearly 20 antique tractor pulls within a 30 mile radius! Many of them say that the only time thier tractors get out is when they pull or parade them. Has any one organized one?? Would already have access to land. Is there liability issues? Should the public be invited? Bring your own plow? Invitation only? Here there are a lot of 20 somethings aquiring tractors their Grandad let them sit behind the wheel, and there are alot of gentlemen who owned them since new! Several I questioned thought it would be some thing to be held annually!

Where should I start?

Any guidance would be great!

Butch

I have been to a few plow day's and all are fun. The noon lunch is a good time to talk with everyone and take a break. Most plow day I have been to are for 1959 and older and four bottom and smaller plows but that's up to you. I think that's a good cut off for a old tractor plow day. Then you don't have a 300 hp. tractor and 7 bottom plow in the field.
Last year, two of the plow day's I went to we plowed around 150 ac. with about 25 to 30 tractors.
I just call a few friends and they call few more friends and before you know it you will have 20 tractors and plows show up. I would not try and have plows for everyone. They need to have thier on plow and tractor.
Leave the beer in the cooler until after all the equipment is loaded, You don't need drunks trying to drive with people around that's asking for a law suit. I don't know why people think you have to have a beer to have a good time. I have a good time at plow day drinking water.

Butch, this will be our 10th year. The landowner will have liability insurance that is good for guests. Don't charge or sell anything. Use caution and Prudence. We post warning signs and have participants sign a form stating that they are responsible for their own equipment (which they are)

Butch, sounds good. But make sure you have everybody sign a waiver of some kind saying that if they get hurt you're not responsible. Everyone is so sue happy these days. Doug N

you can have people sign away and that wont protect you from neglagence. and that is how lawyers get around the old "sign here". your homeowners policy will cover anyone one your property. just make sure the limits cover what your have. As lawyers will get a judgment against you and they will own your stuff. I would worry about it as long as you have the right coverage.

If it was me I would decide on a date, print up some flyers with directions and go to some of those tractor pulls and distribute them. Feed stores and implement dealerships might let you put a flyer up as well. Some of the puller groups have web sites too.

Hi Butch , You don't need to get to concerned with the details . Just let the location information and time you will be having it out and they will come ! It does help to have some food and entertainment lined up but the entertainment really should be the plowing . Food is kinda manditory . If food isn't offered around here then the tractors are filled with fuel when the plowing is over . Food's cheaper these days ! If you are looking to make it a late night party too then some sort of shelter and entertainment would be in order . Or ask folks to bring what they play and have a bon fire . It's the fun that's the draw . It might start small but keep doing it year after year and word will get out . Good luck ! ...Randy
