I was wondering who has a low number super H and what motor it has in it? i know guy faye said that some super h's were probally reg h's or some regular h's were super h's. I have seen high serial numbers h's got the disk brakes and roller on draw bar. I am also wondering if the early super h's had the starter button on the stearing pole like the h's or did the late h's have the foot start? I saw a pictures of a super h with serial 537j and it looked to have the pole start switch, but thay said it is important to note that is was orginally shipped to Texas and din't have lights and had a mag. So it was more likley crank start, so if someone wanted to add a starter they could of put the switch on the stearing pole. I cant remeber if the location of the starer it self was on the left like the super H I have (sn 21186j) or if it was like the reg h's starter location. Also if you know of any things that were on the late h's or the early supers please let me know, thanks.

I have S/N 22185, lacated in Warsaw, IN, if someone is keeping track of these. It was one of the last Super H's built in '53. My grandfather bought it new, along with a SMTA, my dad was 19 and farming with him. My dad continued to farm w/ it and I learned to drive on this tractor. We're in the middle of restoring it now and plan to pass it on to the next generation. It still runs great.

Pat in wis:

You asked about the eng s/n of my super H w/ s/n 22185. We looked it up and it is 24986. It was purchased new on March 2, 1954. My grandfather traded in a '45 H. It has been in the family since then. All the casting codes match for '53.

My grandfather also purchased a SMTA at the same time, trading in an M for that one.

You have my curiousity as to why you asked about the engine s/n. You may e-mail me for any additional comments or questions.

The tractor is stored at my Dad's place. It will be a couple days before I can check the engine no., but I will.

The lowest serial number I have on the list I have compiled is SH 510. It is in Monticello Indiana. I do know that super H 539 has a c-164 block, not a 152 block. Don't know about 510 but would like to find out.
Hope this helps, Pat in Wis

Pat: I suspect all Super H had C-164 engine, and even suspect a few C-164 made it into the last H tractors. My dad had one of the last H tractors, it did have IH disc brakes. I have no record of which engine, however it would give our new 300 in 1955 one hell of a run on power. In fact dad always declared the 300 needed TA to match the H.

Hugh, I've been looking for a real late regular H with Super features.Harder to find than a super H. I dont doubt that a strong running H would compete well with a 300. Hope your move went well. Pat in Wis

Indiana Red -

Did you mean 22208 as your s/n. If so, our tractors are relatively close as mine is 22185 and was sold in North Manchester, IN in March of '54. Mine was built on the last day of production in '53 and yours would have been built on the next day of production at the start of 1954. Where are you located in Indiana?
