Well, the Super A if finally here. Started right up and rolled off the trailer. Yea-haw!

My Dad says that this tractor came w/ this loader already on it from the factory. Anyone seen another like this?

The radiator cap was lost in the trek. The operators manual talks about both a pressurized and non-pressurized system. Which do I need?

I'm pretty sure it non-pressurized but wanted to check to be sure before I get a cap.

Ok, I should have thought of that with the tabs on the sides, duh!
Thanks for your help. I'll take a look after kiddo gets to school.--Sandi

Easiest way to tell is by the shape of the radiator filler neck. If it is pressurized it will have the tabs to lock the cap on the outside of the opening (just like modern cars do; you can see them by looking at the outside of the neck) The non-pressurized radiator has the exact same filler neck as the gas tank, as it uses an old style gas cap with the word "water" printed on it for a cap. If your gas cap screws on to the radiator opening, it is non-pressurized.

Heintz57: Super A tractors after serial number 336711 have presurized cooling system. Prior to that all were non-presurized.

Good to hear you got it home, and obviously without problems. Enjoy your new tractor.

Very uncharacteristic of you Hugh, first word I have ever seen you misspell, I can't say that about myself -- pressurized.

CNKS: Your much too kind, I do my share. I must admit, my wife tells me after these years at YT, I spell much better. She being a former school teacher, was quite amused by your remark. I even got her to spell "pressurized".

I don't know for sure, but you could not go wrong with a pressure cap, as if it is a non pressure system a pressure cap wont not make it pressurized...buy if it is a pressure system then you will be covered also....But im sure someone on here will let you know of the correct factory cap. jonnny2006

jonnny2006, the caps for the pressurized and non-pressurized radiators are not interchangeable.

Are too. I have pressure cap on my SC with water pump and my C without. Have ran that C for more than 30 years this way.

The C and SA have pressurized systems, but do not have water pumps. I have one SA and two C's that are that way.

George: I have to agree with Rusty, original equipment presurized caps hook outside the radiator neck. Original equipment non-presurized caps hook inside the radiator neck.

It was possible to buy a presurized cap for inside the neck hooking, but they were not original equipment. They were replacments for any tractor owner wishing to change non-presurized to a presurized system. I got into this very argument way back in 1972. Bunch of customers at an IH dealership, and one of the best partsmen in the business soon set us straight.

But does the C without a water pump have the original, non-pressurized radiator?

Sure does. Has a tag on it from the Melrose Park Works, dated 1949. The tractor is a 49.
