Does anyone know how the front main oil seal is assembled? The old seal has felt and leather in one unit. The kit has a smaller rubber unit in a metal housing. It also has a felt seal(same inside diameter) that is not in a metal housing that may or may not be part of the front oil seal. Anyone have clue? Mikes Tractors does not know.
Thanks again guys!

How do like the TISCO kit? I have one on the way for my H. Does everything seem to be of high quality and is it complete as far as gaskets?

No complaints on the TISCO kit in Corey's 51H. Hard to believe it has been 11 months since I rebuilt it. The gasket set was NOT very good. I had to buy some gaskets from IH Ken Updike. IH gaskets were much better quality.

I agree on the gaskets. I just received the kit and they are pretty cheap compared to IH. I did buy a manifold gasket last year from IH and it was made of metal and other material. Tisco appears to be paper. Course I paid $25.oo for the IH gasket. Whewee!!

greg, I am not very far into the rebuild yet. I did have some problems with valves. It seems that IH put whatever was handy in the head. It took three tries before I finally got the right size valves and springs.
The kit does however seem to be complete.

Alan, I gave Mike's Tractor (Mike) the IH part number of the valves I took out of the head. He cross referenced them in his book and said I needed 5 5/16 length so I am hoping they work the first time around. The kit is supposed to arrive Thursday so I will know then.

Use the rubber seal and throw the felt away.

Les, do you know what the felt one is for? Or do you think they send them just to slow me down? I sat there for 30 min. just "a thankin" about it.

The felt half pieces are for the rear crankshaft seal.
