Mike: Michael is correct, the two currencies are very close. Our currency is not gaining against other currencies around the world. Plain and simple English, you folks are going broke, buying Chineese with your own work force sitting at home. Heard on the news last night, Canada has been replaced by China as the largest exporter to the US. Remember also most of those trucks and rail cars coming back to Canada are full. Probably your excess Chineese imports. LOL

However, I like weak currency. The Italians did very well for many years with a "weak" currency. It helps you export more, and only the vacationers feel the pinch.

It should more properly be described as "expensive" and "economical" currency than "strong" and "weak". There is a lot of national pride about being strong but a strong currency rarely helps a country. Efforts to "prop up" a currency are always at the expense of the taxpayer.

Let 'er fall and keep wheat above $9. My mortgage won't change.

Andy: We prospered for years when the CAD was .66 of USD. I was talking with a hog producer the other day, he tells me the change from ,66 to .93? is going to cost him $100,000. annually. The farmer I use to truck cabbage to Detroit for tells me $40,000.

On the other side of the coin, we now can skip across the border and buy back all those old tractors you folks hauled out of Canada in the past 30 years. It all depends on whoes OX is being gored. Some folks are crying, while others are smiling, both sides of the border. Now, convince me we're getting value for money on that oriental junk. Those same oriental folks are in here buying all the bankrupt tobacco and ginsing farms. And who cut the ginsing price?

I have a high regard for the Chinese. They were making Ming Dynasty vases while we were hunting with bows and arrows, on foot.

Their cheap exports are not a result of their ability but of their marketing acumen.

Andy: Marketing may be the answer, however most of the product is poor quality. Here is one old bird that doesn't buy it if at all possible. Canada-USA have traded for years, trucks and rail cars are full both ways. How much are you selling the orientals? How much are we selling the orientals?

Corperate North America keeps on moving jobs to China for one reason and it's not marketing. Cheap labor is the real reason. Now, I will agree North American labor unions have become a bit too greedy. However if your neighbors are all out of work, how long will your grain stay at $9. and how long will your mortgage interest stay low? I think your kidding yourself a wee bit.

my morgage is locked at 5.05% it is a fixed rate. 15 year loan. got 11 left to go.....I will be 41 when she is all mine....I havent re upped my loan and plane on keeping it that way. only 65 % finaced. alot of people will go 130% or more and then there trouble!
