Just purchased a Super MD and was curious about a few things about it. It is a later 52 acording to the casting codes and the serial number is only 4 digits. It has the live hydraulics. Is this original. I thought they werent added until late 53. It also has an early super m grill, same style as a straight m. Is this the original style grill or is it supposed to be the smta style grill. Thanks, andy

Your number unlikely to be Super BMD. My Engine No register says Farmall Super M Nos for 1952 as follows: - 501 through 12515 list does not differentiate between Super M and Super MD. I doubt that its a problem but be aware that the 1939 M series were 501 through 7239. Confusing yep.Hope that is a help

My knowledge of Super MD is limited. You say it has only a four digit serial number. It is JUST possible that you may have a super BMD manufactured at Doncaster England at about the date of yours. These only had four digit numbers. But the casting numbers were of the same series. What is your tractor number

Serial number is 4905 and all of the castings are of a later 52 early 53. What gets me is that it has live hydraulics but i didnt think they came out with live hydaulics until later 53 unless all the super md had live hydraulics. would is say on the serial tag because it does say smd on the tag

super m's never used a mta grill. the few '54 super m's used a grill like the mta without the extra holes punched out.

M&W made a live pump that is similar to the Stage 2 versions. The Stage 2 has the hyd reservoir under the gas tank, meaning that the battery is under the seat. If that is the case, yours has been converted. You likely have an M&W pump. Some controversy about the grille, but on the early models I believe they are the same configuration as the M grille.
