Could I ask you to look at the picture. It is not blurry, that is exactly how I see something six inches from my nose. Actually, could not get the camera to focus. The little clip that is over the float hinge in the picture bends up out of site to the upper surface of the float and is looped around the indent just below the exposed head of the fuel valve needle (hope that makes sense). Before I start bending and shaping, can anyone verify the correct installation of the float and needle with this clip. I can try to take a better pic if you can't make this one out but this is the best I could do so far.

I can tell it looks correct. The actual install is correct only if the needle is not pushed to one side in the seat . The clip has only the task of pulling straight down on the needle (with no side to side influence) th assure it is comming down off of the seat when the level is low. There is as much as 1/16" slack in the distance between the needle head and the float tab when the float begins to pull on it (when upside down) There are so many different designs of these clips, and float tabs that it is hard to describe. Many work for "ever" with no little clip at all. Freedom is the answer to how best it works. JimN

Once again, I apologize for the picture but the camera is having battery issues and will not auto focus. This picture is of the fuel needle with the clip installed on the NECK of the needle head.
I was guessing when I did this as the clip came off the original before I could note position. This is correct if I understand you above? When installed in this fashion the float, via the clip, actually pulls the needle down slightly to load fuel into the carb. If these two positions in the pictures are correct AND there is no fuel in the actual float THEN my diagnosis is the poor seating of the new rubber tip float OR a float set too high OR both. Do the experts agree with this humble novice?

The clip looks OK. If it does not restrict or "direct" the location of the needle by pulling at all sideways on it it will work. If it has any influence sideways the needle will not seat in the bottom of the seat hole. The crookedness will allow seeping.
I would rather see it without the clip, than with a clip that interferes. Check the old clip it may be better! JimN
