OK....I lied. It's not "perfect". Just one more question...what makes an engine stumble when you throttle up sudden like? It recovers but you worry it won't sometime going up a hill. Never did this before and it won't if I throttle up easy. Just wonder why and if I can do something to help it out? Never tried playing with that throttle screw...what does it do?

It would be real easy to say that your problem is due to fuel starvation, but that ain't always the case. Ignition problems and carburetor problems will quite often mimic each other, and also, remember that vaccuum leaks will mimic both fuel and ignition problems. Not much help am I??

Actually, I was reviewing my archives today on the B and it would appear that you are very much a help! I think I can rule out ignition problems unless maybe I fouled my plugs a little with all this goofing around I been doing and I don't think I have a problem with fuel starvation 'cause pretty much every component betwixt the tank and the carb is new or been cleaned but it would be easy 'nuff to check. Vacuum leak would be like where? Around the throttle shaft or elsewhere on the carb? Maybe I need to recheck my bolts?

The vacuum leaks (if any) will be at the carb to manifold connection, the manifold body (rust holes, or cracks External, or cracks internal into the exhaust passages), or the manifold to head connection. If you have a leak of this nature, and have the idle speed screw turned enough to make it run fast enough to stay running, the idle mixture screw (that now does nothing) will do nothing. Check as follows. Use a propane torch with the burner off of the short pipe so that pure propane comes out. With the tractor outside idling, open the propane valve to what would be a medium flame (not way open) and keep the bottle lower than the valve to prevent venting liquid propane. Apply this fuel source to the places mentioned above with some care to be sure to cover all areas. If there is a leak, the engine speed will change abruptly, causing an increase in speed. If none are found, and the timing is correct, then fuel delivery in the carb may still be the cause. They are very tough to repair and can be hair pullers. If the manifols is cracked internally the only way to find it is visually with it off, or with all ports plugged, and pressure in the exhaust port it will hiss through the intake. Very best of luck, JimN

I can handle that! Very well described and sounding like maybe a possibility. Tied up with baling for a day or two here but I will get on it and let you know what I find. Thank you!
