I called in a bid for that SMTADV. But my $400 was quickly outbid, and I was tapped out. third party image

When I win the lottery I'm going to buy them all. Then the prices will go up so you better buy anything you want now, as I expect to win soon.

I wonder if that is the same SMTADV that sold for $45,000 last year this time at an auction in PA. Was there a paint run on the left side of the fuel tank? Did it have new foreign made rear tires. Can't remember the brand.

I think CNKS said that there were 75 built.

If I did, it was a mistake -- Guy Fay's data book does not give production numbers for the SMDVTA, but Guy says there were 64 SMVTA's built, that number likely includes diesels. The diesels would be fewer in number since in 1954 gas was still the preferred fuel. -- but NO IH tractor is worth that much, unless it is a new Case-IH. Some people simply have too much money. Te $6000+ A is almost as silly.

Pulled this off the Aumann Auctions site.

Lot# 25 High Bid: $75,000.00 By: Onsite SOLD 1954 Farmall Super Mta Diesel High Crop, Sn. Smdv81642s

The star of the Farmall line has always been the Super MTA Diesel - now we have the best of the best with the star of the line in a High Crop! Only 84 of these were ever built, making it one of the hardest to find IH High Crops. Bought in Pennsylvania out of an advanced IH collection. Perfect restoration and a great runner. Lots of appreciation opportunity with this tractor!

Sounds like the same tractor Aumann sold last year. Ain't auctions weird? You never know who is going to show up. I wonder if he will sell it next year for $105,000?

Yup , more times than not , Auctions do bring top $$$ (especially) for the rare &/or nice stuff ..... . i was at a local (WI.) auction about 4 years ago ( when tractors were still cheap ??)- COMMON tractors (350 , 400 , 560 , MD , etc) were fetching mostly 7 to 10 k ,,,,& they were not true restorations , just fixed up so-so & nicely painted (pretty much 4 to $ 5000 tractors via an add) i have a dandy 350W diesel ( 146 built) that i tried to sell last spring for $10 K ,,,,, ,best offer i got was $7500 ..... maybe i need to RAISE my price when i try it again this winter ? !!!!

Put it up for sale at $25,000 and then a couple weeks later have a SUPER SALE and drop the price to $15k!

Well that explains why the SMTADV was the 25th lot. Aumann puts the prime stuff first after he sells the small collectable items and literature.

Where was the auction?
