Rated about the same horsepower as the 1466 but does not have as much torque. Better fuel economy than the six cylinder. Designed to us ether assist for starting in temperatures below 70 degrees. Start cranking the engine and when it gets to cranking, speed press the either assist button. Hold the button in after it starts to run until the white smoke clears up. It can take a couple of minutes in cold weather.

To aid in keeping the engine under enough load to keep it from smoking when lighly loaded, fuel is sent to only four cylinders, two on each bank. When the engine load reaches about 20 percent the other four cylinders start to receive some fuel deliver. This percentage increases until 80 percent load. From 80 to 100 percent load all eight cylinders should be receiving equal amount of fuel.

The engine does not use sleeves but can be rebored. The crankshaft is not regrindable. Later engines had a little higher comprression and used the opposite four cylinders when running in the reduced fuel mode.

it should work fine for that.
only thing is they don't have a turbo so if the disc is good sized you might have to let it run a little faster to pull it.

don't have an answer for you, but i think they are neat. variable displacement engine is still in its infancy today, but those tractors had it. (they ran on 4cyl at idle)
