I inherited this tractor and know very little of its history. The first time I ran it I noticed a small diesel fuel leak where the fuel line connects to the front fuel injector. The next time it ran the fuel tank appeared to be pressurized excessivly. Fuel started to spew out from the vent on the fuel tank filler cap. The tractor is equiped with dual saddle tanks factory installed. What would cause this? thanks for your help

Thanks for you help Owen and Nat. I'll check out the saddle tank configuartion, pump and switchs, as it is the cap on the hood that is venting.

The most likely cause for a fuel leak at the number one injector is the cap on the front fuel return port. All the other ports have hoses on them. The caps tend to split and leak.

I never saw any saddle tanks that were factory installed. They could well be dealer installed. If you have two saddle tanks there must be a fuel pump to pump the fuel up to main tank. The only ones I have seen have a manual switch to turn them on and off.

With just one extra tank it was possible to use a nonvented cap on the main tank and then as fuel was used it would draw from the extra tank to keep the main tank full. That system did not always work very well because you had to have a perfectly leak proof fuel system or else the fuel would not be deawn into the main tank.

All the fuel lines are sealed with o-rings. The connection that is leaking is either loose or needs to have its o-ring replaced.
The tank should not be pressurized AT ALL. Which cap is the fuel spewing out of? Saddle tank cap? Cap on top of the hood?

For fuel to be "spewing" out of the vent holes in the cap, the tank MUST be overfilling. Even if you pressurize the tank, the air will push the fuel down and away from the cap, not up and towards the cap. Fuel CAN NOT spew out the vent if the tank is even slightly less than full. The tank MUST be full right to the brim for fuel to spew out the vent, and for it to spew continuously, it must be getting additional fuel from somewhere to keep the tank full right to the brim.

Side note: Never fill the tanks right to the brim. Fuel expands as it gets warmer, so if you fill 'er right up and leave the tractor in the sun, fuel will spew out the vent holes.

I suspect that there are selector valves somewhere that allow you to select the saddle tanks or the main tank. It may be pumping fuel from one tank, but returning it to the other due to an incorrect combination of selector valve settings.
