We are doing the final prep on Shawn's gas tank before painting. My question is, there seems to be an indent on top about 3 inches rear ward from spot weld for internal baffle. It feels like someone has hit tank with fist, is this low spot factory or did someone put a dent there on top.

Maybe I can post picture tomorrow and mark stop where the dent is. We are being mighty picky on this tractor as it will be used to pull hay trailer in parades with Special Olympics kids aboard, and be put in shows...Thanks

Thanks everyone, I am going to fill them durn fist size dents today. Aw gee whiz thought I had everything ready for paint. I think somedays we all get too picky, but if we don't it seems to come back to haunt us later. third party image

[quote="scotty"](quoted from post at 05:19:36 09/27/07) Mornin Keith,
It looks like youve got some rust in your tank ! I used a box of locknuts in mine along with some mineral spirits on an old paint mixer for a couple of hours spining it slowly and it ended up like new inside ! Just a suggestion !

Scotty, I've already address that problem. Yes there was rust in the tank, I put in sulfric acid to eat out most of the rust after which I used OSPHO to nuteralize and convert what was left to oxide. I do have some stuff to line the tank, but think I am going to pass on that as tank looks really good inside now.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had planned on doing just that, but tank came out fine.

There should be no dents. After 50 some years of working we all get a few dents here and there.

Whither they're factory original dents or not, If it were mine, I believe I'd fill them before applying a nice new coat of red.

Those dents are barely visible in the pic, but once you get a shiny coat of red paint on it those little impressions will look like moon craters. I think I would fill them.

Keith,
From pictures I have of our old Super C from the farm, the gas tank appears to be sculpted very smoothly all the way around with no indents. From the many hours spend on the tractor I don't recall any indents but that was a long time ago. My 2 cents worth...
