I went and loooked at an M after i got done plowing yesterday. The tractoe has not run in over 2 years, there is no batt. the rear tires are shot and will need rims as well. the front hold air, the tin is ok. no lights, starter needs work most likly. The oil was clean and soo was the coolant. Im was wondering what this would go for in that shape? I was thinking $400 cause the rims and tires alone will set me back a good grand. But i dont want to insult the gentelman either?

Thanks for the help!!

Andrew

dej(jed) said: It will weight about 5000 lbs if you scrap it. Heavy scrap is about $6 per 100 lbs. or $60 per 1000, so it would bring $300 for scrap in a worse case scenario.

I think parting out the usable parts then scrapping what is left will bring more money than $300. But I see your point for a price reference.

I think that would be a fair offer becasue of the repairs that the tractor needs. I always start my offers at scrap price if it is in poor condition or the engine is stuck. A person has to be careful doing it my way becasue a person may be insulted by the price. I normally start out by saying" It"s your propery, you have to tell me what you need for this tractor". Im still finding running tractors for under 500. Be patient any you will find a deal.

Wide or narrow front? A wide front end is worth more, should you ever decide to part it out instead of fixing.

Is the engine stuck? If it's not stuck, is there any compression if you try to crank it over by hand?

With a stuck engine and wide front, I'd say $400 is fair. Narrow front stuck engine I would give $300.

If the engine is loose, it's only a matter of a day to get it running, but rear rubber and rims are pricey so probably only $500 to $600 loose.

That's my $0.02 worth...

I agree with Rusty, The deal you strike needs to be (and will be) good for both. Explain your intentions and bring some photos from this site that show some for sale Ms and get some prices on rubber/wheels to ad to the evidence. JimN

I suppose if the engine is not stuck and it will run then $400 would be a reasonable price. Being insulted works both ways. A high asking price is an insult to the potential buyer, just the same as a low ball offer is an insult to the seller.
