The fuel gauge on my Inernational 1066 is not working. It shows about a quarter tank and doesnt"t even flicker when energized. The previous owner marked an X over the glass so it hasn"t worked for some time. Since I"m very good at automotive electrical, can some one give me some hints as to where to start trouble shooting. thanks for your help.

Make sure you have 12 volts on the "ignition" side of the guage with the key on. Then, like the other fellas said, ground the sending unit's feed line.

If the guage doesn't go to full, you need a guage.

If it does in fact then move over to the full mark, take that sending unit out of the tank and very, very gently bend that little wiper arm with a small lock pick or some such tool so that it will again "wipe" the resistor coil.

90% of the time, the problem is in the tank unit. However, yours kinda sounds like a bad guage or a lack of voltage. They "usually" will flicker at least a small amount when you turn on the key.

could be a bad float in the tank, or a sender in the tank problem. otherwise a wiring issue, or the gauge itself.
quick check is turn key on and ground the wire that goes to the tank. that will tell you if the gauge itself is bad or the wiring. the gauge should goto full if you do so. otherwise it's inside the tank either electrically or a sinking float.
