Well after I pulled my head out of my a$$ and decided to recheck my plug wires again and realized I had 1324 as my firing order. I know I know everyone else said 1342 but apparently I was either drunk or not drunk enough, either way I switched the wires and fired it up and after a little coaxing she fired up but she also stalled out after about 20 seconds but I think that is compliments of my Briggs and Stratton inline fuel filter restricting the flow of fuel. So I am going out right now to get some diesel because I gave up hopes of ever needing it again and poured it on my fenceboards so the horses would stop chewing on it and then I am going to figure out a way around the b&S filter and see if that helps it to not stall out. I will keep you all posted on my progress and I am sure I will be in the barn virtually all night sitting on my running tractor waiting for daybreak so I can pull it out of the barn and start working it again. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED ME IN THE PAST 10 MONTHS!!!!!

Confirm also that you don"t have one or more fouled spark plugs, or a bridged gap in one. My MD bridged a plug gap with carbon particles when I first tried to start it. They don"t run on three cylinders very well since they don"t have a governor to turn up the throttle on that carburetor. If you have a digital volt meter you can quickly confirm a fouled plug with the ohms function -- a good spark plug should measure totally open. Any measureable resistance indicates fouled.

I saw below that you had to dry one off with a torch, that's why I said fouled plugs. Believe me, today's plugs can foul out in seconds when running extremely rich -- BTDT.

ok pulled the intake manifold off, so I could split the carb and make sure everything is as it should be. Pulled out all the plugs and they are really charred looking for being brand new plugs with 0 hours on them. The exhaust smells REALLY rich. Anyways took all this off and it seemed really flooded. Took the valve cover off and that is a whole other post, so will reset the valves once I figure out what the clearance is supposed to be. Hopefully the valves are far enough out that this is causing some problem.

if you are going to run an inline filter, stop at napa and pick up a 3031 or 3032 in line filter. its a full flow filter and will work with a gravity flow system. one is for 5-16 fuel line, the other for 3-8 inch. if you need a rebuild kit for the f-8 starting carb on the md, oem tractor parts has the rebuild kit for about 94.00.

Brian

Easy on the choke, most of the time the choke on these tractors will just cause it to flood and stall. My A will fire up w/o the choke and the throttle at about 3/4. This forum has a parts section; you might want to check it out for your carb kit. I ordered some parts on Friday and got them yesterday.

Good Luck!

Corey

Thanks Corey,

I am gonna check locally to avoid the hang-ups at the border that can occur from US to Canada, if I can't find one here I will grab one through OEM. I have a CASE IH dealer about 25 minutes from where I live.

Your horses are chewing the fence because they are bored.

Thanks Allen,

IT is actually only one horse and he is a habitual chewer, does it for not other reason than that he wants to.

HAHAHA, well they are sure not bored so long as the tractor is not working, at least I still have the original horse power kicking around to pull when I need it. :)

OK, do you have bored board horses, or bored fences with board horses? I can see with board horses your fences might be bored. Why even have fences? They won't keep termites out. But maybe they aren't your horses, they are just horses you board for some bored folks in town. Then they would indeed be bored folks boarded horses.

Now if you really want to spruce the place up get some white bored horses with white board fences to amuse your bored friends before I board the train to the looney bin.

HAHAHA, totally lost me on that one. I do not have bored board horses or bored fence boards, I do have board fences and non-bored non-board horses that are mine and they keep me totally un-bored.

Ok maybe jumped the gun a little, had it running, think I flooded it, let it sit while I went to town to replenish my diesel supply. Took off the inline filter and drilled it out to allow better fuel flow, tried to restart it and it chugged for about 5 seconds then quit, took out #1 plug and used a torch to dry it, put it back in and it chugged for another 5 seconds, guess now I need to take everything I knew about the choke on this thing and play around with it until I figure out how to not kill it. Also need to find out if my Case-IH dealer can get me a carb kit rather than ordering one from my neighbours to the south. Will go back out in the AM and try again, this time going really really easy on the choke. Just to clarify since I know a few different models used the same carb as mine and I just picked up 2 carbs from Rock Valley in Iowa not exactly sure they came off a 450 or not is it possible that the choke linkage is reversed on this one? Probably a really stupid question but still worth asking since I am at a whole new square one now.

Hi Brian,

Use propane vapor as a starting agent as it's compatable with both gas and diesel engines. add a small amount of LP in the intake.

Once running with the LP shut off and the engine dies, then you have a fuel problem.

If the engine runs but has a miss, then add more LP. If the engine smooths with the added LP then you have a fuel problem. If the engine still runs ruff with extra LP added, then you have a electrical or mechanical problem.
