I have two questions. In a Farmall A or any antique tractor does leaded gasoline have to be used? My second question involves the light switch. Does anyone know how to wire up the replacement three position switches that are available on Ebay? Here is the link to show you what switch I am referring to.

Thanks!

history guy: Lead additive in gasoline was required to enhance the lubrication properties of gasolines used in high performance, high RPM engines. Your Farmall A is neither.

You Farmall A operator's manual contains an excellent wiring diagram. If you don't have one, you should be bidding on it first.

If your A has a four position switch, LHDB, and a cutout relay on the generator. (no voltage regulator) you would need to rewire the whole charging system to go to a three position sw.
The switch shown on Ebay(if you use it) would have one connection to the tail light, one to the headlights, and one to the power (from the Load side of the Amp gauge, or the L terminal on a real voltage regulator. The dim position goes through a resistor to the headlights only. Only lights of the original brightness/wattage can be used because the resistor overheats with bigger drawing lights. JimN
