OT One owner tractors?

I have seen several for sale ads with tractors stating that they are one owner. Does that mean a lot to you guys when buying a tractor? Your thoughts would be appreciated. One reason I am asking, I know of a tractor on this web site that claims to be a one owner, when in fact he is the 4th owner. Is he right in saying this, or does it not mean a whole lot to any of you, or is it a figure of speech? Seems kind of dishonest to me. My 2 cents

I like the term original owner. That's a lie. Original owner would be the factory. When I buy a tractor, I listen to the tractor, not the owner of any kind he may be. All sellers lie. One or two lies, not bad. Three or more get movin'.

It is owned ONLY by Shawn so therefore it is a 1 owner tractor, NOT the Original owner.

I don't know if this is right or not, but sometimes I think they say they are the only owner is because they think they will get a better price for it.

i wouldnt think how many owners a tractor has had would be as important as how it has been kept up some farmers are real good on their mantenence, others run them until they drop then fix em,my grandfather bought a M and a C new in 40 and 48 i think for the c, these were his first and only tractors, until he retired in '70, my uncle soon sold them when he took over the farm they were took very good care of, ran great, they just wern't big enough to be productive tractors by then, still, he didnt get very much for them, but theres always somebody trying to jack up the price with the words 'one owner' or 'rare' and of course theres always the owner himself, if a guy is 50 years old and he's trying to sell you a 1 owner 1940 m,ahh... he's lyin'

Yes it is dishonest. Does it matter? That is your call. The only way that a tractor can be called one owner is if you are the one that bought it new. You cannot by definition have a one owner tractor that was originally purchased by someone else. My Grandfather bought a new H in 1951. I am the second owner, hence it is now a two-owner tractor.

It's dishonest, but unless I know the people involved I wouldn't believe it anyway. If it has had 4 owners in 40 years, that doesn't tell me anything about it. If it has had 4 owners in 4 years I don't want to have anything to do with it.

If things get much worse in Michigan I may have to take in a partner next time I want to buy a tractor. But until then, all my tractors are one owner tractors. I tend not to take too seriously anything anyone says if they are trying to trade their junk for my cash. Who cares how many people have owned it? You're not gettin' married!

Being a one owner tractor really doesn't mean all that much if that one owner beat it to pieces over its lifetime.The condition of the tractor in question would be, to me,of more importance.I'll trust my eyes if I'm looking at it with an interest,moreso than what someone is saying about it.If I get junk,I only have myself to blame.

the way i see it if you are going to restore the tractor and it runs it dosent matter to me how many people have used it becuase im going to fix everyhting thats wrong with it and im 16 by the way so i really dont know all that much so if it runs and drives the rest i can fix.. brakes oil leak electrical etc i can fix after the few pulls i am going to repaint ....sorry went off a little bit but anyways theres going to be a diffrence between a 1 owner tractor and a 15 owner tractor because each owner probly fixed something and for some reason they sold it yes you should call the guy out on it becuase hes still ieing no matter what its about

i have a few one owner tractors, they were neighbors tractors that they purchased new, i grew up running them. to me they have sentimental value, as i can remember the owners when i take them out and run them. i have the original bill of sale for the 1942 m. i dont think it adds any real value being a one owner, except maybe for maintenance records.

I suppose it matters a bit, if you infer that "one owner" means they were happy with the machine's performance and always took care of what they had. I know some people who do not maintain their machinery and I would never buy something from them. Other people that I know I be honored to buy something used from s I know their use and maintenance habits.

Having purchased a few one-owner tractors... yes it does mean a lot to me. Because I have bought these tractors from people I know and I am aware of how they take care of (or don"t take care of) things. It helps me set a price on what I"m buying.

If I drive in the yard and everything looks like junk - assume everything is junk. Drive in and everything is nice, cleaned up, stored inside, well kept - assume everything has been taken care of.

Being untruthful is just that - there is no "fine line" in this case, the guy is just plain dishonest. There is a HUGE difference between being the first and fourth owner!

On the other hand, I have a pickup I bought from the original owner"s son - title was in Dad"s name, but the son had used the pickup for about 35 years after the Dad was gone. Am I the second owner? Or the third? Now that may be a fine line to some or clear-cut to others. According to the state records, I"m the second owner.

Too bad tractors don"t have titles that you could run a CarFax on...

Should I call this guy on it or let it go? I sold the tractor to him and there was nothing stated about being a ONE owner at any time. And I know for sure I was at least the third owner. Nice tractor, but still the third owner. Makes me wonder about the other tractors he is trying to sell. Just kind of erks me I guess.

He needs to be asked what his definition of a "one owner trator" is. Have someone you know ask him to see if he has a coyote definition. In my opinion, if your absolutley sure it is a tractor you sold, he needs to know he is not as clever as he might suspect.

Quess he means as of today he is only owner tractor has. Like an old tractor trader once told me "I do not lie to anyone but sometimes they do not understand what I am saying"
