H oil filter question

I bought a filter based on the Fram C135 requirement. My auto parts place referenced a different filter which was cheaper. So I got it. It's a Wix. So I went to install it today and it didn't fit. When I looked at the filter base it didn't look quite right. I'm guessing the old filter broke at it's base and the bottom is stuck in the H's filter base port. I wanted to make sure and ask before I start pounding the heck out of it to get it out.

Advice is appreciated.

I put vice grips on it and twisted and yanked it out. Got the old rubber seal out and replaced it all. Now it's set.

I just have the owners manual so far. Haven't gotten the service manual yet. When I do it will be the IH one from Binders.

Douse that flanged piece well with PBBlaster at the base, let it sit overnight , and put a pipe wrench or a chain wrench on it and twist that piece out of there. Don't forget to pry the old hard rubber seal out of the ring groove. Are you using the ITT manual or a genuine IH Farmall H manual?

Really? I don't know anything about them. I paid $8.99 for it. (on base, so no tax) I was going to check Wal Mart to see if they were cheaper.

You have the right filter. I use NAPA filters. They are made by Wix. The NAPA # is 1172 which is the last four digits of the Wix filter #. Looks like the bottom of the old filter broke off. You have the new filter oriented correctly. The longer tapered end points down.
