Farmall A Intermittent not Start

I thought I could always figure out why a tractor will not start, but I am stumped on this one. My Farmall A that I use for mowing my lawn with a 60" Woods finish mower decided that it at random will not start. Once it did it cold in the shed, but mainly it has happened when I have been mowing, shut it off for about 1/2 hr and then it will not start. It just spins over with no fire at all. I even cranked it with the same result. It has a magneto. I checked the spark and it has good spark and it only sparks on the correct cylinder. It seems like it is not getting gas, but I took the drain plug out of the carb and gas ran out like it was at the correct level. I need to point out that when it runs, it runs really good even under heavy load with thick grass. After cranking it over today for several times without it starting, I pulled a spark plug and it was dry. I finally squirted some gas in one of the cylinders and it finally started. What could be causing it to not get gas intermittently when I start it and after it is running it runs fine or most of the time it starts on the first cylinder. Roger

Try using a little choke and see if that helps. Just blip the choke lever for a revolution or two to get the gas flowing.

I had a similar problem Saturday, but it turned out that the gas tank was empty, and the fuel I ran out was the last in the carb bowl...

You need to hold your hand over the throat of the carburetor and see if there's good suction on your hand while someone makes an attempt to start the tractor. You need good intake manifold vacuum to pull that atomized fuel into the engine.
Make sure the intake manifold is tight and the carburetor too. You may want to do a compression check on the engine too. Set the valve lash to .017" cold. You need good compression to have
good intake maifold vacuum. Hal

Is it only doing it when its hot? If it is, it could be getting vapor locked. Try blowing into the tank with your hands around your mouth to create a seal. Also make sure your sediment bowl doesn't have any air bubbles in it.

Does it start if you choke it? It's not getting fuel sounds like. Have you ajusted the valve clearance?
