Radiator Flush

We talked about flushing my H's radiator with a 50/50 vinegar/water mix, and a washing soda solution as well. I did a test, and neither seemed to break down my scale at all. I was at Wal Mart pricing oil and such, and I saw Prestone Radiator Flush, that's supposed to clean out rust build up.
Has anyone used it for good results? It's only going to cost me $6, so I figure it's worth a shot, and less stinky than the vinegar.

It works good. But put it in, run to warm up the engine, then drain it all out. After that, repeat the procedure with just plain water a couple times. I didn't do that once and ended up with a radiator full of suds. I don't think the Prestone stuff is really much more than soap. It feels like dishwater if you put some between your fingers.

First off if you use vinager you use it stright not with water. Also you need to be able to run the engine till its good and warm for it to do much. The same holds true for the stuff from wal mart you need to run the engine or it will not do much either

I just cleaned my H and my M with rain water last week. drained it and filled it several times running it, bushhogging and pulling logs in between. When I would drain it it was kind of whitish colored, Last 2 times I drained it the water was clearing up nicely as it came out. The H seems to have gotten grease in the rad from the water pump so I will put Dawn in it and flush that through before putting in antifreeze for the winter. The grease has made the rubber on the rad cap swell so I am going to need a new cap for it.

How did you test it? Vinegar requires heat to catalyze the reaction. So if you put it in an engine, you need to get it running and hot (may want to block the radiator a bit to let the temp gauge get up higher) for the best results. It removed quite a bit of crud from our 806 when I ran it through, and I didn't even get a chance to get it really warm. I figured the vinegar was so watered down that I wouldn't have to worry about finding leaks in the radiator when I was done.

You need to let the vinegar set for a couple of days for best results fill the block also.

According to the archives, if you use dish washer soap it will knock the rust and scale loose. I hope to have my tractor back together by this weekend and intend to give it a try.
