Hey Red Guys,
I was able to purchase the Farmall HV that I spoke about last week, but I bought it without it having a serial number tag. (or I at least can't find it, Its supposed to be on the bell housing frame right?) I was curios to know if there is any other tag located on the tractor some where that can help me identify the year of the tractor. If so, is there anyway that I can cross reference another Number to find out the serial number of my new HV?? All help is needed, This is a really nice complete tractor and I would love to find out if there is a way to figure out which serial number mine has.
Please Help Guys,
Thanks
John Deere Jeff

I doubt there are records available to answer that. If there are, I'd be very surprised.

Jeff: Look on the right side of engine, just below # 1 spark plug... On the block, just above the side pan... There is a Serial # there, too... You might have to scrape some crud off, but its there.... My serial #'s on both my H's match the the # on the Bell Housing Tag... Looks like I have the org. engine, per Tag #! Now, if you want to get a Serial Tag made-up and the engine hasn't been changed, at least you'll have a number.... Hope this helps you... Good luck with your HV... Wish I had one!

Check for casting code letters, they are on many parts on the tractor, example: 10-12-M would be October 12th, 1943. The letter at the end is code for the year. Make sure you read it off many of the parts and if some letters are different, go by the one that is on the most of the parts. Congratulations on your new HV. How much did you need to pay for it? Does it run? I'd like to see a photo of it.

Andy.

Look on the right hand corner of the block, just below the number one spark plug. There is a flat machined surface with the engine serial number on it. The H serial tag and engine number should be the same.

Sorry Georgeky, I didn't see your reply.... LOL, maybe I took too long going outside with a flashlight to be sure the number was on the right side. :-)

The main thing is, we're right, but I woke the ol' girls up.

You can find parts list and schematics at CaseIH.com. Wisconsin Historical Society also has info on them in the IH Archives. Some info is sketchy at best. You might get one of Guy Fay's books on letter series Farmalls. He has studied the archives extensivly and written a few books on it.

I found the serial number on the block and yep its original. I determined that the HV is a 1950 and it is also an all-fuel tractor. I was curious to know how many of the 863 Hv's were all-fuel??? Thanks for you help
