I have a Farmall 340 w/factory utility wide front w/o power steering. I really like the styling of the 240/340/460/560 and the older 140. I have the operators, parts and IT manuals. Operators gives good info, specs and views w/locations of the types of stuff you are asking about. The archive area of this great board has a wealth of information and you can search the photo archives for tractors and implements. What are the genetic traits of the 340 you acquired? I'm sure you will enjoy it. Good luck.

The filler cap in front of the distributor is for filling the engine oil. As for checking transmission oil levels There is flathead machine screw under the fooplate on the clutch side. (At least thats where it is on the 340 Utilitys) And the fill hoole fot the trans is on top of the platform in front of the seat. It is a large plug that has I believe 1/2 square hole in the top of it.

Yah thats pretty much it, you take that machine screw out, than fill till the oil starts to run out there, than put it and the fill plug back in back in.
