How does a customary transaction happen between two parties that are exchanging money for parts, tractor ect..on this web site classifies? Is there a pay-pal? Have there been any "dead-beats"...that do not send what they sold? whats recourse for this? Need information on buying process. thanks

i have bought a tractor ( farmall M ) off thus site. one of the nicest persons i ever met. just be smart about it. if in doubt DO NOT BUY.

I too have bought and sold here and think 99% of the time you will be dealing with good honest people. If your concerned just ask,,,,, ,,,good people watch out for good people and on this site they will be honest with you. By protecting you they are also protecting themselves and their intregrity!

Hi Al,

We have a forum for dead beats on this website. This works well. I think that would work better than pay-pal or e-nay.

For large ticket items, there's many escrow agents available for a cheap cost.

I think one has to remember that 99% of the stuff we buy here is very old. I'm pretty mechanical inclined and when I bought the daughters first car the clutch went out the next day. I sure didn't see that one coming. The disc had shattered. How offten do you see that?

Al: I've both bought and sold items with guys on YT. I cant say anything but good about all the folks I've encountered. Bear in mind I have dealt mainly with regulars. I don't think any guy that is on here on a regular basis is going to do anything dishonest or deceiving. His days at YT would be over. I personally wouldn't want that to happen, and I rather doubt any of the regulars would want it to happen to them either. It's a judgement call.

I can tell you, I've sent under $100. items quite often to regulars and told then to send a check when they received it in good order. I have never been burned on that.

I'll go with Hugh on this one. I have twice had guys find out I wanted something and just ship it to me. One time the fella told me up front what he wanted and the other guy just mailed with a bill and a note saying if it wasn't worth that amount to send him whatever I thought it was worth. I have bought numerous other items that I prepaid for and received the item before the check could have arrived. Bought both my Farmalls from people here also. Just a really great bunch on this forum and the N forum also. A lot of knowledge at your fingertips. On the other hand, I feel I get nicked a little too often on ebay. The one tractor I bought there seized before I could get it off the trailer. I'd like to think it was a coincidence....something to play with! :-)

Buyer beware. The website has no safety net like eBay and PayPal.

If you are lucky, the seller and buyer will agree to use PayPal - that way you have a slight bit of protection.

I haven't had any trouble dealing with anyone that I've come in contact with through this site... and old tractor guys as a rule are a pretty honest bunch.

You need to be aware. Simple words and phrses are sometimes meant as a smoke screen, ie. "a runner", "one owner or two owner tractor" "rebuilt"

"parade ready". Some one purhasing a "rebuilt tractor" without benefit of knowing who rebuilt it is asking for trouble. Be aware and don't be concerned that you might be asking to many or elementary questions.
Let them know when the deal is done you are n ot apposed to c`amping on their front door step if things are not above board. I will incurr sustantial expenses above and beyond those initialy spent to right things if expectations are not met.

I like the way you think and thanks for the advise. My mom's side is all farmers and thats what I grew up seeing and hearing about. Good honest people. But, the internet is a far cry from stopping by a fella's house, farm in your pickup in the evening to talk and pick up a part. Just wanted to hear a few of your thoughts. thankyou all
