I have a '44 H. It had two bolts holding the grill on that were just from a hardware store. Were the original bolts that held the grill on all dot bolts? I know the '39/earl '40 used a weird system, but mine is just bolts. I have been unable to find dot bolts for the grill, which makes me wonder what is really "correct"?

Ditto on the SS bolts, I have been using SS button head socket capscrews with neoprene bonded SS washers on my 350u. The rubber washers keep from scuffing the paint when you tighten them. Plus you can get them in different diameters, so they match the bolt head.

Yeah, I'm sure they were "dot' bolts. Fine thread. You need a couple?

I have just ground off or filed off the grade markings in the past on some bolts I put on my 10-20 when I rebuilt it.

Quit worrying about being so correct, and youll have a lot less headaches and alot more fun. The later bolts had IH cast onto them, and ulerss someone is making them, they are not going to be found anywhere but a junkyard, and will probably be rusted and near useless anyways.

The biggest thing to check is to be sure you have the right thead count, some were NF some NC. As for what bolts to use, just my opinion, S.S. hex head (correct thead) with a flat S.S. washer - unpainted - looks sharp as a razor.
