how a 5288 shifts

Hi, I am thinking about purchasing a 5288 and I was wondering if it shifted like a quad transmission on a John deere. I dont think it is like a powershift, but i could be wrong.

It is similar to a quad range, but think 3 ranges x 6 gears in each range. 1-2 no clutch 2-3 is synchro, 3-4 no clutch, 4-5 is synchro, 5-6 no clutch.

You have to stop to shift between low, medium, high, and reverse.

The shifting between 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6 are an electric/hydraulic shifted TA.

Just wanted to point a few things out..

as far as the ranges go, they are also syncro except going into reverse.

also, shifting between 1-2 3-4 5-6 actually uses a powershift transmission so there's no need to worry about a t/a going out.

we have a 5088 that we've had since new which now has 8200 hours. the motor has never been touched except for a valve adjustment. the powershift section of the tranny was rebuilt around 7200 hours and probably would have lasted a lot longer had it had an update done to it when it was new.

I think you'll be happy with a 52.

On the range lever, hi. med. low and rev. you need to clutch it. Then on the gear select lever you clutch it between 2nd and 3rd and 4th and 5th. Between 1st and 2nd no clutching 3rd and 4th and 5th and 6th no clutching. They are a great work horse.
