I have a 1953 jun/jul manufactured w4 and would like to know if (and) w4's had power steering and the number produced. A local parts person told me no tractors came from factory with it, but no farmer would go to as much trouble as it looks to make ithe w4 look factory. Can somebody answer my Question, THANKS

it probably has a char-lynn power steering kit on it. it was an aftermarket unit , bolts right on has an assist cylinder on the steering arm as opposed to the torque generator on the row crops.

The reason the discussion is kind of heated with the local parts man , is that the power steering resevoir comes up through the hood on the left front. The hood has been punch stamped?--the edges are curled down like they were put into a die and cut as the metal was bent. Alarge machine shop could have done it I guess but it would have been a lot of trouble for very little. The tractor is at my brother-in-laws so I can not tell you what the serial # is.

A W4 steers and drives like a dream, especially with fluid in rear tires. Really hard to imagine someone feeling the need for power steering unless a FEL was involved, and then an H would have been a better choice anyway. I own a W4 and three H's.
