Hi, I searched the forum and found that a lot of people are using a variety things for the hydraulic fluid. 30W oil, gear oil, and other weights. So I am confused as to what I should use - I thought they made hydraulic fluid like tractor 303 or something. I looked in the tank under the gas tank and it appears to be only 1/2 full, or 1/2 empty. I am planning on changing out the fluid and am not sure what to put back in. I&T said a little over 4 pints and fill it within a 1/2 inch of the top cap.

The SA was built before hy-tran. When new 30wt oil was used its your money.

Re: Super A Hydraulic fluid - Filter Location? in reply to SteveNH, 11-01-2007 05:52:10
Looking at the I&T diagram it looks like the strainer - assuming this is the filter - is on the left of the drain plug hiding behind 4 bolts, is this correct? I didn"t want to take more apart than I need to since I am a "If it"s not broke don"t fix it" kind of guy. I know these older things can get worse if you try to "fix" them.

Thanks for the help. I will pick up some Hy-Tran tomorrow. Also, thanks for the suggestion about cleaning out the filter, I will do that as well. I will bleed the system as noted in the I&T - if I run into trouble I know where to find help.

Thanks.

I agree with the post below, pull the filter and drain what's there. Hard telling what's been added in the past.

Given the price of "real" IH Hytran I'd buy a hytran equivelant at TSC or even Walmart. It will do fine in a Sauper A.

I use Hy-Tran in all my hydraulic systems, including IH live pumps, Cross brand pumps, IH belly pumps, almost everything we have gets Hy-Tran... except for the JD tractors, which get Hy-Gard.

Mornin Steve, As Hal recomends use HY-Tran which you can get from your Case IH dealer. I use it in my Touch Control on my Super A. I might suggest that you pull your filter out and clean that before putting in ne fluid !

I would use a good grade of hydraulic fluid such as HyTran or HyGard or one that is compatible.

I use ATF in mine. I rebuilt the reservoir and flushed the system before putting it back together. I bought some Dexron and refilled the reservoir and have been a happy camper.

I use Dexron in my garden tractor hydrostatic drive and the hydraulic lift. For the last 36 years. Hal
