Belt pulley for my H

I just installed a belt pulley from a '39 H on my '45 H and noticed that the engagement lever goes to the left side (opposite the pulley) not the right side like others I have seen. I was going to install an engagement rod but there's no way to mount one on the left without fabbing something. The shift lever isn't even drilled for one.
Is this due to the pulley gearbox being off a '39?

Yes. the 39s and very early 40s were different. Not only does the engagement lever point in the opposite direction, but more than likely the gears inside are narrower and not as strong. I don't know for sure, but it is also possible the gears will not mesh correctly with the gears in the tractor. You'd be better off to find the correct assembly. Someone who is restoring a '39 might be needing the one you have.

I have it installed and the gears seem to mesh perfectly and it seems to operate perfect. But the way the lever is you have to get off the tractor to disengage. I am thinking I'll just weld a lever on in the other direction or make a custom engagement rod. Thanks for the input.
