I am still getting used to it. I was up till 2am last night when I am used to hitting the hay around 1am. A couple years ago Indiana didn"t change time like AZ and AK. It was the stupidest thing this state ever did. The reason was New York was on daylight savings and even though we were in the eastern time zone we would be off from the big east coast companys time certain times of the year. Daylght savings time I heard was thought of by the railroads who came up with the time zone thing in the first place. It is just a bigpain in the butt all the way around. God gave us 24 hours, no more no less. we just get less daylight hours in the winter, but we get more nighttime hours to hibernate!

Hugh,

Gee, I thought it was only down here in the "big city" that customer service had flown out the window... seems like anywhere you go it's impossible to get help finding a specific item, and once you find the item, it's waiting in line just as you describe.

Even after living in town for several years, I'm still up with the sun and expecting to get right to work. Works out fine on weekdays, but would be nice to have the ability to sleep in on a weekend once in a while! And of course the stores aren't open at 5 when I wake up.

Either way, daylight savings time is an interesting concept... but I enjoy AZ where it doesn't change.

Doesn't bother me, just Dad. And he doesn't decide when to work based on the clock, but when he can go to town for parts... he usually shows up too early or too late at least once before he remembers to change his watch and the clocks in the pickups... it's kinda funny, really.

Steven: Kind of expected that answer, I can remember on more than one ocasion asking the equipment dealer if he was keeping bankers hours. The farm supply business community don't exactly revolve around the hours of guys like your dad and I. Yes, that one always was a pain in the butt even when the time wasn't changing. Why, one morning last week I was ready to go for some hitch parts at 6:15 am, and only 15 min. away. They don't open until 8 am, worse than standing in line at the supermarket.

Marg. was commenting on that store practice last week. Supermarket with 2 of 12 checkouts open and a dozen folks lined up at each. I told her, "What you women have to do is walk out and leave about a dozen carts full at the checkouts, I bet they will mend their ways."

Paul Harvey has said it for years...'you have to wonder about people who will allow their government to convince them, that changing their clocks an hour will give them one more hour of daylight in a day.' My grandma Martha and uncle Ole (Norwegian here ya see den) never did change their clocks, the cows can't tell time, just get them milked. Last week, friend and I were at Amish woodworking shop and he exclaimed 'that clocks not right'...I and the Amish gentleman smiled and he said 'God doesn't change his time, that is sun time year 'round.' Another side note, I just broke the spring on my grandma Nancy's clock winding and resetting it, Uff da.

jonnny: You must have forgotten when, very likely you were late for church in the spring.

Someone in this group suggested time change was for farmers, however the only folks I can see it benefited were clock makers, from us screwing up our clocks. About half these clocks my wife has are battery type. Last fall after she changed them, every battery clock in house needed a new battery. I guess the battery folks are getting some benefit.

Some industry group claims that the extra light after work increases grilling out, and therefore demand for meat. I also saw a claim that they extended DST until after Halloween to help the candy makers because if the kids had more light for trick or treat then people would have to buy more candy.

Back in the 50's the walk in theaters pushed DST to put drive ins out of business.

I read in the newspaper yesterday that one of the reasons for moving the clocks was for the farmers. I can assure everyone out there that MOST farmers don't work by the clock. We will start when it gets light in the morning and go until we get done or it gets dark. Fieldwork will be done with lights quite a bit of the time.

No daylight savings here in AZ... makes it interesting because I'm only a mile away from NV - after everything here is closed, we can go across the river and shop another hour!

I know Dad will be upset for at least a week - happens twice a year, too. He just doesn't like adjusting to daylight at different hours of the day than he is used to...

Steven: I never used to let this bother me, always found sun came and went, and I came and went with it. Actually before the sun came and after it went, still do that part.

The confusing part started just recently, Marg. seems to have developed a passion for clocks. She's got at least one in every room in the house, some rooms two, some of them change on their own and that happened two weeks ago. I have no idea what time I got up this morning. Some clocks said 4:30, some 5:30 and a couple said 6:30. When the sun came up I figured it out

How could you miss church? You would have been an hour early.
