Seat to ride behind driver?

Okay, here is a good question for all you tractor buffs. My son wants to build a frame to hold a bus seat ( or something similar) to put on the back, behind the rear axle, for me and his dad to ride in when he is driving in special occasions. He wants to know where would be the best place to bolt the frame of the seat to and maybe what type of metal you all would suggest for the frame. This will be going on a 1939 H.

On a B or BN you can just add an additional seat and platform on the left side which would be safer than adding a rear seat.

How about a carry all mounted on the 3 point and have a bus seat mounted in the carry all? Ron

Thanks for all the input. I told my husband what I would like to have and he called a friend and we went and got an axle so that I can build a frame, hitch and put two bus seats on it. At the most the trailer will be 4 foot wide and 8 foot long. That work?

I saw several home-built seat trailers at Red Power. Some even looked like a bus seat, but mounted on a low slung two wheel trailer hooked to the draw bar. All looked pretty stable and relatively safe.

Well, when I was a kid it was 7 miles of mud to get to town. All we had that would deal with those "roads" was an 8N. We built a "carryall" to fit the 3 pt and we would all go to town for groceries, kerosene for lamps, etc, etc. Gran, who was in her 80s sat in a chair that was tied to the deck of the thing wrapped in a blanket. Us kids just sat with out lags hanging over the side and back. Do not recall any light front end issues but there was mud everywhere flung off the rear tires. Some of us fell off when the going was rough but luckily no one ever got hurt. Now no one rides on my tractors except the driver, It was fun though.

I agree with the others. If you rig a frame to hang from the back, add a seat, and put two full grown adults on it, you could be adding close to 1000 pounds back there, significantly affecting the center of gravity. If he hit a bump or something, it could toss the front end up.
A wagon or trailer is the safe way.

Just my opinion.

Someones gonna get hurt. Hook a wagon to the tongue.

Amen to that one. I agree Allan. I seen some setups but never would encourage this way of riding.

Me niether. Youre not really supposed ta ride on a tractor, and i get alot of crap for letting people ride on mine. Seriously, someone standing inside a cab in the corner with the door locked and is holding on to things is safe at 5mph. Just like a little kid riding on my leg steering while i control the hydro. foot pedal and have a hand ready to grab the wheel is safe.
