Hello Everyone--
I need a petcock for a start up tank. The tank I have has a sediment bowl on the bottom. I believe they originally had a petcock. Any ideas. Ryan

On my 41H the bowl is on the little tank. It does have a shut off valve on the big tank

O.K. here we go again. The original setup on 39 & 40s, maybe latter, had the sediment bowl on the small tank and shutoff valve on the large main tank.

The the set up was reversed sometime (I have not been able to ascertain an exact date) with the sediment bowl on the main tank (at that time the bowl opening location was moved back on the big main tank from its previous forward location) and the shutoff valve put on the starting tank. I have original owners manuals showing both setups

The sediment bowls are, if memory serves me right, also different, with the one side port on the opposite side of the main body. Makes sense if you think about it.

Reasons for the change are speculative, some believe too many bowls were broken by the aux drive belts, personally I think that when Farmall figured out that gas setup was going to be the primary requested arrangement demanded by farmers, it just made sense to them to put the bowl/filter on the main big tank. There also appears to be an undocumented, least I found it somewhere once, "field conversion" package to switch over the older units to straight gas operation. This would have included the single (possibally new dual bowl), and a new fuel line that ran straight from the bowl to the carb.

If you have the 55210-D bowl you have the one for the early setup. If you don't want to use it, prefer to adapt to the newer arrangement give me a shout, I need another older style bowl.

Ryan, I was at a tractor junkyard this afternoon and looked on the tanks under the MD's. This place only had 2 of them, one had nothing, the other had the top of a sediment bowl. There is another junkyard in my area that has lots of MD's, but I don't know when I'm going back there next.

I'm 99% sure that a '44 should have the shut off on the small tank, and one dual fuel sediment bowl under the main tank. That is how I'm setting up my '44.

The sediment bowl is correct for at least the 39s and maybe early 40s, maybe even after that. At some point in time the sediment bowl was moved to under the main tank and a fuel shut-off was installed in the small tank. If the tractor is a 1944, it probably should have the petcock, but don't quote me on that.

My 1940 has the remnants of a sediment bowl on the small tank. Seems like Ive seen pictures of 40s and 41s with them on the samll tank.

What tractor? I believe the sediment bowl under the small tank is correct. The shut-off went on the large tank.
