Mel IH did have an after market tubo kit with 660 oil bath air cleener for the 560. Only thing had to cut different hole in hood for the stack. Other than that would not it was on there.

The tractor actually belongs to Rob.It is a Garrett turbo and the air cleaner system is much like that of a 656 and inserts into the side.

Mel: None of them were turbo from the factory, that leaves roughly 65,000 - 560s that came off the assembly line naturally aspired. My 560 was one of the last and one year later IH had no turbo for it, only option I saw at that time was M&W. I still have that piece of M&W literature my IH dealer gave me.

have a old ih recall/field change book that has a change on a turbo part for a 560 with what ih called a dt282. i would say for it to be called a dt282 it would have to be factory option and not an add on. it has ih part numbers for the recalled/changed parts.

bradd: DT282 is right but it was never used on farm tractors from the factory. Any factory DT282 I've seen also had an inline injection pump and were used as stationary engines or industrial equipment. There was never a Farmall 560 from the factory with turbo, you could not even buy an add on IH turbo in early 1964. I tried.

You sure that engine didn't come out of a crawler? Just don't think the 560s came with a turbo.

That narrow front kind of knocks it in the head, but the right guy might get up there around 5 depending on condition?

Allan: You probably know the answer but didn't those same crawlers all use a different injection pump than the farm tractors? All that I've seen around these parts crawlers have inline injection pumps while the farm tractor had Rossa Master.

I've only been close up on 1 TD9 and it would have been a mid to late 60s model with 282, turbo and inline injection pump. I've noticed the inline injection pump on other crawlers but never looked them over closely, as it applies to engine or turbo.

You are correct. There used to be a 560 turbo about 40 miles from me that was tractor pulled with in the early 1970's.It had the air cleaner mounted on the hood.It was dealer installed but was a factory kit.

The turbo was offered in high altitude areas only. However I believe it was a dealer installed option, offered only to dealers in that area, rather than factory installed.

We are in Michigan and we had a turbo installed on our 560D by our then local dealer. It was an M&W unit. There was another one just 1/2 mile away from us as well. Those were the only two I ever saw locally. It made a nice add-on for the 560, but it also came with a lot of head bolt breaking problems too.
