Hi, i can't get the rear steel wheels off the axles on my 1936 F12. They are in bad shape and I have a pair of rubber tire wheels to put on the tractor. The bolts in the hub are removed, but they wont come off the axles, i have put the handyman jack on them and they won't move. the clamp separating bolts are twisted off. what should I try to get them off?? thanks.

I have used a bottle jack and a heavy nylon tie down strap. I put the head of the jack on the end of the axle and put the hooks of the tie strap on a spoke across from one another. I put fair amount of pressure on the jack and take a block of wood on the back side of the wheel and hit it with a sledge hammer. Usually once it moves I just use the jack and kind of "walk it off the axle" It take alittle messing around but it hasn't failed me yet. If you have to put alitte heat to it. I did this on my F-12 to get the wheels loose to get it on the trailer, have also used it on my JD's as well.

You should have 2, maybe 4 threaded holes for you to run a bolt in to expand the centers, mine still had them in there. If you are broke off then the chisel deal will work.

Are you planning on selling the steel when they are off. What state are you in?

the wheels are junk, the lugs are all missing, another hub has been welded in and when you stand in front of the tractor, you can see the wheels are very "crooked", not straight. I"m in MN.

If cowmans idea dosn"t work, wait till we get a real cold morning and heat the clamp part with a torch but don"t heat the axle. I would think a morning in the low 20s upper teens would be enough. Might even tie a bread sack part full of ice around the axle while heating the wheel also.

Drive a chisel in the slot to expand it.
