Nothing better than having a neighbor with a stump grinder and some time on his hands. It took an hour for the stump but an hour and a half for the beer.Life is good

Another quick comment. Most of the tractors sold in the 20s and 30s on steel have been converted to rubber, just like this H. On original Farmall and F-20, the only way to keep the "narrow" setting of the wheels was to use 36" rims to replace the 40" steel wheels. The result was a tire that was much larger in diameter than the steel wheel. Speeds in each gear went up a lot.
Some F-20s (and -30s, too, I guess) had a smaller tire, but the rims had to be turned OUT permanently. VERY wide tractor, but the speeds would have been closer to original.
One problem with these converted wheels is that they are light. IH and others tried to add some weight to the rears by using a cast wheel on the F-12/14 and H and M. There were additional axle-mounted weights available, too, as I recall. I vividly remember an F-20 I used to use that would slip a lot in heavy plowing--no water in tires, and no weights added to the wheels.

The flat, thin spokes are cut-offs from steel wheels. WW II cut off a lot of rubber availble for tires, and tractor mfrs. were forced to go back to steel for a while. On H and M, fifth "gear" (just a dog-clutch that moved forward and connected input to output shafts) was locked out with a bolt that went down in front of the shifter rail. Of course, you could "install" fifth gear after conversion to rubber--just turn the bolt up a bit, or replace it with a short one. I've often wondered if any dealers offered to "install" a road gear and charged much for it.

I believe that is an add-on lever to be able to engage the PTO using your right hand without bending over to use the original lever.

Hi Don, That is a very nice looking H! What year is it? I've got a 1943 H that I restored a short time ago. Mine has the same McCormick Deering Farmall decals, same front wheels and same style rear wheels as yours. My rear wheels are the heavy cast iron ones, not the thinner pressed steel ones. I'm going to show some pictures of my 1943 H tonight, I'm uploading them all into an online album with my SLOW dial up connection. My H has a belt pulley too. I want to get fenders for mine someday. You have a real nice H!

Andy.

1945 is when the letter series stopped using the McCormick Deering decals without the IH, prior to that they read McCormick Deering Farmall, as in the picture. From about that time until mid 1949 they read IH McCormick Deering Farmall. In mid 1949 the Deering was dropped and they read IH McCormick Farmall. The 1947 Cub should read IH McCormick Deering Farmall Cub. The last of the Super letter series, the Super H did not appear until 1953.

The letter series went from 1939 to 1955. With the introduction of the Super Series in 1948 and 1952. I think the Cub used that same decal only in it's first year of production. -David Goode Coggon, IA
