Well yesterday was 15 degrees. I went out and started the truck to go to work and thought what the heck lets see if the SC will go. I gave her choke and hit the starter and she fired right up. My son came running to the door (6:30AM) to see if it had snowed so he could plow some snow. I was tickled to see it start in the cold. As a kid we never had a tractor that would start in the winter. We fought the snow in our drive way and around the barns. We fed cattle with two wheel drive pickups and were stuck a lot. Our tractors just would not start in the winter. Since our tractors wouldn't start we never had a blade. Funny how that would have made life so much easier but we never were able to do it. I wish I would have had this SC when I was younger. Ron

Ron: I don't know a lot about Idaho mean temperatures, however I can tell you these 4 cylinder Farmall gassers are good as far down as -40F as long as you keep them well tuned. My dad always said, "Much colder than -30F, I don't want them to start anyhow." Put it this way, the SC will be willing when the flesh is not. From the detail in your post, I suspect your flesh is not much younger than mine.

Just maybe, your son may have a different outlook. I know my dad didn't have a big problem getting me to drive the 300 a half mile back to the barn at -40F one morning back in 1956. The 300 was 6 volt, and went urh-urh-urh, and on that last one she fired up, Jan. 1956. Our next problem the governors were froze in excess of governed speed. I jumped on, poked her in 4th and headed for deep snow, (12" on flat field) After about 3 minutes in the deep snow the governors thawed out, she ran normal. I just continued on to the farm stead. You'd need big money to convince me to do that today. We were all, once young and foolish.

Wait till it hits 30 below and you need to plow the snow out of the driveway. Them SC sure start nice in the cold weather. My SC hasn't failed to start yet as long as the battery was up. Biggest problem I had when I first got it was giving it too much choke and then having to crank it over more before it would start but it would start. Now just go out and give it about half choke in the really cold weather and it starts right up. Wish I could get started that easy in that cold of weather lol.

Yep but what is even worse it you have 5-25 tractors and the one you need for plowing snow or moving hay etc is the one that doesn't start but the one you don't need starts at the drop of a hat. BTDT and it seem to be that way to often at least on my place
