I need to replace 2nd gear in my 1950 H. Can this be done by removing the gear plate cover only or will I have to split the tractor in half?

I know it will be a big project, figured I better ask this question before I tear into it. Thanks guys

While you are in there check those bearings out. That is the time to do replacing if need be. Also better change the lower gear. Get them in the set that they ran with otherwise you will get noise. Get bearings and seals at a bearing house and it will save you a TON of $$$. I got my gaskets from CaseIH.

Like Terry said, you don"t have to split the tractor, just remove the top to the tranny/rearend. You will have to remove the belly pump too and disconect the input shaft. Do you need a replacement gear? I have a spare 2nd/3rd slider gear and I might have the gear for the bottom shaft too.
