All right, got the LP Super M that I bought in September running again. It fired right up and sounds good. However, I have a minor problem in the vaporizor or carb. Here's the whole story:

I got the tractor to run briefly before I bought it and noticed that with the valves on, a small amount of propane flowed continuously out of the carb. After I got it home, one of the things I did was take the vaporizer apart and examine it. It had some powdery residue in it, but the diaphrams were not ruptured and seemed to be in good shape so I cleaned it up and re-sealed it. After that when you turned on the valves, with the engine off, nothing happened, no flow, which is a good thing. Now when I started it again, after several minutes, it started loading up at idle, running a little rich. I tried adjusting the idle screw on the vaporizer but didn't seem to make much difference. I also tried adjusting the load screw just to see if that did anything at idle, but no dice. After I shut it off I noticed that once again propane was flowing through the carb. Are there any other adjustments to it? Is simply time to get a kit for the vaporizer and or carb? I still have the name and contact info for the guy in OK that someone gave me earlier. Any other tricks or techniques I should know? This is my first LP tractor so I'm still on the learning curve.

Also has anyone seen hide or hair of IH owner's manual or supplement for the LP M's? I have a Super M owner's manual but it doesn't mention L.P. stuff.

Cen-Tex, Tear down the vaporizer again! Most vaporizers will have a center housing where the diaphram works back and forth. check to see if there is wear! if so see if it can be realigned so the old wear points are not used now! turn it 1/4 turn or so. If I may be of help, Hollar at me on the phone. 512-577-3837 And I will try to talk you through what I am talking about, If the above info is not clear enough.
Later,
John A.

Are you talking about the "low pressure side"?(The side with the fitting going to the carb)That diaphram had a metal tip that was made so it could wiggle a little bit and the tip fit into the end of a lever that would close a valve. There was a stamped steel plate between the main housing and this diaphram. On what I'm calling the "high pressure side", ( with the fitting coming from the tank) there was a heavy spring that held the inlet valve open unless closed by pressure of the LP inside the vaporizer. That diaphram I did not actually remove from the main body as it was stuck pretty good and I was afraid of tearing it. The one on the "Low pressure side" came off with just a little encouragement. Do you mean to rotate the diaphram and re-install it? The stamped steel plate only goes on one way due to an a second offset hole that lines up with a hole in the main casting. Now that it hasn't run in a couple of days I need to turn on the valve again and see if it holds.
I have to work today but I may try to call you if I get a break.

I"m no expert, but I think you still have a regulator problem. The diaphram controls a needle and seat type of valve to regulate the amount of fuel needed according to the manifold vacum. With the motor not running ( no manifold vacum ) no gas should be passing into the carb. A spring usually holds the valve shut. if there are no holes on the diaphram then the problem could be the seat or maybe the spring. Sounds like a rebuild kit for the regulator might be in order. I have no first hand knowledge of the IH setup but they are all similar.

On the LP gas tractors, I all ways start my JD 630, AC WD45, and Oliver 770, all are LP, on just the vapor. Open the vapor valve, crank the engine and run it on vapor until it warms up, then slowly open the liquid valve. When stopping the engine, just the reverse, close the liquid valve and then the vapor valve. With both valves closed, the engine will run a short time before stopping. HTH
