46 A Carb Problems

I picked up a 46 A. It would not start so I took the carb apart, cleaned it out with carb cleaner and it needed new floats. I put the new floats in and the tractor will start right up and run for about 15-20 seconds then starts to "bog" then dies. Immediately after it stops fuel starts to leak out the bottom. I set the floats lower but I am not a mechanic, I am a welder. Any ideas I may be able to try???

WOW!! It did not realize there was so much to such a small carb. When I first took the carb apart the was a bit of dirt in the bottom. I think I will try to find someone around here that knows more about this stuff. The needle has a rubber tip but seems loose in the brass thing it sits in. Sorry I don't know what the brass thing is. Can a dealership set this thing up for me?? I really want to get this thing going cause it came with a small snow plow and seems to steer alot easier than my 300U with the loader.

The float needs to be adjusted to the specification given for that carburetor. If it won't run at that setting you have something else wrong. Did you clean the filter screen in the fuel inlet fitting? Did you clean the sediment bowl? Is the gas tank full of rust and crud that is blocking or restricting the flow of fuel?

Well first off did you just open it up and try to clean it or did you put a kit in?? You need to go the lit route. Then if you did put a kit in did it have a rubber tipped float needle?? If it did you need to take those and seat the needle or they will leak most of the time and cause flooding. You seat them by tapping in the needle with the float out but the needle in the seat. Aslo you need to make sure the needle seat is real tight or they leak. Setting the float lower doesn't help most of the time it hurts because it doesn't have enough gas in the carb to run the engine. Also does choking it help or hurt. If it helps you probably have a clogged main jet if it hurts then you have a problem with the float seat or float
