I have been putting my 1948 H back together the last couple of days, had to replace some gears and bearings in the tranny, I went to put the belt pulley gearbox back on and discovered that the bronze bushing is totally shot and the portion of the shaft that rides in the bushing worn and groved pretty bad.

I thought that I was going to have to get a different shaft or have it turned and polished smoth and make, or have made, an undersided bushing. Then I remembered that I have a spare BP gearbox in the barn:-)
third party image Dug it out and just swapped the internal parts. All ready to install now :-)

It does my heart good to see another bench top looking just like mine, especially the big hammer just showing in the pic. MTF

you didn't want to just switch the entire unit? Or was it not off the same model tractor?

No, I did not want to. The casting code on the BP gearbox that I took off matched the tractor, the other gearbox was 4 years older. You can call me crazy if you want to, I just wanted it to match :-)

I guess it is not quite ready to reattach, I have to replace the soft plug yet, it was rusted out.
